About This Concrete Calculator
Why We Built This
Every contractor and DIYer has been burned by a bad concrete estimate. Order too little and you're making an emergency run to the batch plant mid-pour. Order too much and you're paying for a short-load fee plus disposal. This calculator was built to eliminate that guesswork β giving you yardage, bag counts, and cost estimates in seconds, right from your phone at the job site.
We built this tool because the existing options were either buried in ads, required sign-ups, or used outdated pricing. Concrete prices have shifted dramatically since 2020 β a calculator quoting 2019 rates is worse than useless. Our estimates are based on 2026 national average pricing from ready-mix suppliers, big-box retailers, and bulk cement distributors.
Who Built This
Built and maintained by Tony Reaves II, founder of Toota Industries. Tony is a defense industry operator and government contractor who works directly with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). His background in military logistics, procurement, and large-scale project management gives him a unique perspective on what contractors actually need: tools that are fast, accurate, and don't waste your time.
Tony has managed concrete pours for government facilities, coordinated material deliveries across multiple job sites, and understands the real-world cost of estimation errors. This calculator reflects that experience β it's built for people who pour concrete for a living, not for ad revenue.
How the Calculator Works
The calculator uses standard volumetric formulas to convert your dimensions (length Γ width Γ depth) into cubic yards β the standard unit for ready-mix concrete orders in the United States. It also converts to 60 lb and 80 lb bag counts for smaller jobs, and estimates total cost including a waste factor for over-excavation, spillage, and form irregularities.
Key calculations follow industry-standard references:
- Cubic yardage: (Length ft Γ Width ft Γ Depth inches) Γ· 324 = cubic yards. This is the standard formula used by ready-mix suppliers nationwide.
- Bag count: One 80 lb bag yields approximately 0.6 cubic feet. One 60 lb bag yields approximately 0.45 cubic feet. These yields follow manufacturer specifications from Quikrete and Sakrete.
- Waste factor: We default to 10% extra for over-excavation, spillage, and form irregularities. This aligns with ACI 304R-00 recommendations for field placement.
- Cost estimates: Based on 2026 national average pricing β approximately $150β$170 per cubic yard for ready-mix (3,000 PSI), $5.50β$6.50 per 80 lb bag, and $4.00β$5.00 per 60 lb bag. Prices vary by region, supplier, and order volume.

- Portland Cement Association (PCA): Technical references for concrete mix design, compressive strength, and curing requirements.
- Quikrete & Sakrete: Manufacturer-published yield data for bagged concrete products β the basis for our bag-count calculations.
- RSMeans Construction Cost Data 2026: National construction cost database used by contractors and estimators for material pricing benchmarks.
Pricing data is refreshed annually to reflect current market conditions. The 2026 update accounts for continued cement price increases driven by infrastructure spending (IIJA), carbon-reduction mandates affecting cement production, and regional supply chain variations.
Concrete Strength Guide
Not all concrete is the same. Here's what the PSI ratings mean for your project:
- 2,500 PSI: Residential sidewalks, patios, and non-structural applications. Minimum code requirement in most jurisdictions.
- 3,000 PSI: Residential driveways, garage floors, and foundation walls. The most common residential mix.
- 3,500 PSI: Commercial driveways, parking areas, and floor slabs subject to moderate traffic.
- 4,000 PSI: Structural columns, beams, and suspended slabs. Required for most commercial construction.
- 5,000+ PSI: High-performance applications β bridge decks, industrial floors, and severe exposure conditions.
Always confirm PSI requirements with your local building department. Many jurisdictions have amended the IRC/IBC with higher minimums for specific applications.
Limitations & Disclaimer
This calculator provides estimates only. Actual concrete requirements depend on site-specific conditions including subgrade preparation, formwork accuracy, reinforcement placement, weather conditions during placement, and finishing methods. The waste factor is a guideline β irregular excavations, sloped sites, or complex formwork may require additional material.
Always obtain a firm quote from your local ready-mix supplier before ordering. Prices vary significantly by region, order volume, mix design, and delivery distance. Short-load fees typically apply to orders under 5 cubic yards. Weekend and after-hours deliveries may incur surcharges.
For structural applications, consult a licensed structural engineer. This calculator is not a substitute for professional engineering judgment.
